Digital Disruption and Your Digital Strategy

In the fast evolv­ing busi­ness world, a revo­lu­tion­ary trend could mean the birth of new busi­ness open­ings or the dis­so­lu­tion of an in­dus­try gi­ant. Dig­i­tal dis­rup­tion is mak­ing waves through­out the world and a sound dig­i­tal strat­egy is a must for an or­ga­ni­za­tions.

A CEO cock­tail, or­ga­nized by 3W Con­sult­ing, dis­cussing dig­i­tal­iza­tion and its im­pact upon a com­pany was held re­cently at the Colombo Swim­ming Club, where two prom­i­nent per­son­al­i­ties dis­cussed the topic with a rapt au­di­ence.

Mr. Ste­fan Mo­raes- Manag­ing Di­rec­tor of 3W Con­sult­ing- a mem­ber of Third Wave Groupon speak­ing about the com­pany’s de­ci­sion to or­ga­nize the event said, “We want to get our clients on the fast track to dig­i­tal. Help them un­der­stand what dig­i­tal dis­rup­tion is, what are the forces of dis­rup­tion, how it im­pacts Sri Lanka, what their com­pa­nies should be look­ing into in terms of dig­i­tal in­stru­ments”.

As the in­ter­net, so­cial me­dia, the in­ter­net of things, big data and new tech­nol­ogy such as the drone is shap­ing the fu­ture of the world, dig­i­tal dis­rup­tion can be felt across many an in­dus­try, from travel and tourism to re­tail, bank­ing, agri­cul­ture, etc.

“The whole world has been dis­rupted and the whole busi­ness scope has been dis­rupted by dig­i­tal,” Mr Mo­raes went on to say, “cre­at­ing new space of busi­ness and tra­di­tional in­dus­tries are be­com­ing di­nosaurs”.

Pre­sent­ing the au­di­ence with new food for thoughts were Mr Ste­fan Mo­raes and Mr Ro­han Bu­ult­jens. De­mys­ti­fy­ing dig­i­tal dis­rup­tion, Mr Mo­raes spoke about the forces of dig­i­tal dis­rup­tion and what the fu­ture may hold among sev­eral other top­ics.

Ad­dress­ing the crowd, Mr Ro­han Bu­ult­jens spoke ex­ten­sively on the im­pact of dig­i­tal­iza­tion to an or­ga­ni­za­tion as well as how a com­pany may em­ploy cus­tomer ex­pe­ri­ence and ar­tic­u­late the in­for­ma­tion to im­prove cus­tomer sat­is­fac­tion.

The event at­tracted 3W Con­sul­tant’s clients and one at­tendee spoke about the dig­i­tal dis­rup­tion and its im­pact upon bank­ing. “These are in­evitable things,” he stated, go­ing on to say, “or­ga­ni­za­tions should do cer­tain things to meet the dis­rup­tion, to be the dis­rupter, not the dis­ruptee”.
